Endoscopy is an extremely useful tool in the investigation of stomach and large bowel disorders as well as for the investigation of bronchial (airway) disease. Ususally this will require an anaesthetic but the technique is non invasive and is a simple way to get tissue samples for analysis in order to diagnose stomach or airway disorders without the need for surgery.
We currently have 2 endoscopes, one for viewing stomach and large bowel and another smaller scope for airway disorders.
The endoscopes are basically flexible tubes with a fibreoptic light and viewing channel with a tube in the centre for obtaining samples. These allow us to help diagnose various problems without the need for surgery which of course is extremely beneficial for the patient.
